BALTIC STUDIES SEMESTER PROGRAM

Baltic Studies Program offers a range of academic courses that concentrate on political, cultural, economical and ecological particularities of the Baltic region. The aim of the program is to introduce international students to distinctive features of Baltic history, culture, politics, society, economy and nature. Estonian context of the program is emphasized by language studies module, presently offering Estonian and Russian language courses on different levels, and culture courses that focus more narrowly on issues in Estonian cultural space.

The program is primarily intended for foreign visiting and exchange students majoring in the humanities or social sciences, but is open to students from all fields. The experience from Baltic Studies Program has served people with different interests as a basis for further study of the region.

The Baltic Studies Program is a one or two semester, non-degree-specific program.  The courses are structured to three thematic modules- politics and society, history and culture, business and administration. That allows students easily to find the set of subjects with certain common focus.  However, students can freely combine the courses and construct their own set of courses.

All the courses in the program are conducted in English and they are meant for undergraduate level but have also been attended by graduate students whose field of study concerns small nations and the cultures of the Baltics or Eastern Europe.

Students admitted to the Baltic Studies program should take courses at least for 16 credits (24 ECTS)  from the program packet and up to 5 credits (7,5 ECTS) from other courses available in University of Tartu. The visiting students of the University of Tartu have the right to take courses up to 20 credits (30 ECTS) per semester.
